Paint Industry in India is very well developed and we have large brands like Asian Paints, Nerolac, etc.
However, the industry still has potential for in smaller towns and villages. This industry as you must be aware attracts many compliance requirements such as – use of Lead based material is not allowed, use of oil based paints is not allowed, in case of industrial paints which is generally oil based then the storage of oil and distance of manufacturing should be 150 feet, etc
It would be the best to get into Water Based paints for residential, commercial buildings rather than industrial paints. You can think of focusing on Low Income Group customers to establish yourself. Then study the trends in India for residential and commercial properties based on which you can decide where to focus on. The Innovation in this field will be the game-changer as you must be able to focus the target market and build products around that target market.
It will be very essential that you study the market very well along with the strategy to market your products – sales channels, launching of products and geography where you will sell. During the study, you must identify environmental risks, license compliance and ensure that you build the plan accordingly.
